Biography

Marc Alexander Newfield (born October 19, 1972) is an American former professional baseball player from 1993 to 1998 who played for the Seattle Mariners, San Diego Padres, and Milwaukee Brewers of Major League Baseball (MLB). Newfield played baseball at Marina High School in Huntington Beach, California. As a first baseman, he was one of the top-ranked high school baseball players in 1990. The Mariners drafted Newfield with the sixth overall selection in the first round of the 1990 MLB draft. When he made his MLB debut in 1993, he was the youngest player in the majors. At that time, manager Lou Piniella wanted Newfield to become a full-time outfielder. On July 8, Newfield hit a low line drive to John Valentin of the Boston Red Sox, starting an unassisted triple play.
