Biography

Wayne Tyrone Housie (born May 20, 1965) is an American former Major League Baseball outfielder. Listed at 5'9", 165 lb., he was a switch-hitter and threw right-handed. Housie was originally drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the eighth round of the January 1986 amateur draft. Over four seasons in their farm system, Housie batted .245 with nine home runs and 141 runs batted in. He was released at the end of Spring training 1990, and signed with the Salinas Spurs of the California League. His .270 batting average, five home runs and 49 RBIs were enough to catch the eye of the Boston Red Sox, who signed him on August 2. He was batting .274 with one home run and twelve RBIs at double A when a knee injury to Mike Greenwell got him a call up to the majors.
