Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

Digital image scanned from a 35mm black and white negative of artist Joyce J. Scott posing in a tree near the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts during the 1974 annual summer session. Captured from a low angle, Scott is sitting on a tree trunk, both her arms flared at the elbows. Scott makes a joyful face as she looks off slightly to the proper left. Scott wears a patterned headdress and a patterned poncho-like garment over a dark color long-sleeved shirt. Trees are in the background.
