Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

A color photograph of Joie Harvey by Sheila Pree Bright. The photograph depicts Harvey in full length profile, against a bright white background, holding an American flag. She appears as if running towards the right edge of the image, her proper right leg extended behind her. The flag, which she holds above her head with her proper left hand, mimics her movements with the red and white stripes flowing across her face and fluttering behind her proper right shoulder. She is wearing faded blue jeans; a white, zip front, hooded sweatshirt; and green-and-white checkered slip-on sneakers with white socks. The image has a thin white margin. There are three handwritten pencil inscriptions along the bottom edge of the verso reading [2008 JOIE HARVEY 1/7], [YOUNG AMERICANS], and [2024 Sheila Pree Bright] from left to right.
