Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

A wood sculpture by Theaster Gates. The sculpture consists of two pieces (a,b) composed of salvaged floorboards made from old growth pine, arranged to resemble a pair of wings. In each piece, the boards have been laid diagonally into a trapezoidal shape, framed on all four sides by additional boards. The two shapes mirror each other along the straight vertical edge, resembling wings when placed next to each other with the angled sides at the outer edges.
