Source catalog description
This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.
A green patterned fabric-covered stool designed by Mark Grattan. The stool consists of an oval-shaped seat set atop two wedge-shaped legs. The tapered ends of the legs face inwards towards the center of the bench. Both seat and legs are covered in fabric with a woven design in shades of greens, golds, blues, and burgundy that transition colors in areas of overlap. At the center of the seat is a gold metal plate with three concentric raised rings. Rope-like padded fabric bands are arranged around the center plate in concentric rings. These padded bands continue down the exterior side of the stool legs. At the long sides of the oval-shaped seat, between the two legs, are two gold metal plates with a thin, metal band. The interior surfaces of the wedge-shaped legs are flat and unpadded.
