Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

This is a sterling silver belt buckle designed and created by Art Smith. The buckle is made of two individual rectangular pieces, each comprised of four, thin metal rods soldered together to create the rectangular shape and keeping the visual texture of the rods. The shorter rectangle is perpendicularly laid on top of the longer rectangle to create an ‘X’ with a high apex/center point/intersection. On the back, along the long rectangle’s outer rod (closest to the short end of the short rectangle) is a belt backing loop perpendicularly attached. On the same outer rod, at the end of the belt backing, is the artist’s hallmark [Art Smith]. On the short rectangle’s longer end is a hook on the outer rod.
