Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

A digital illustration by Sekou Cooke as part of the collage studies from “We Outchea: Hip-Hop Fabrications and Public Space.” The 2-D digital rendering is a black-and-white outline of one of three terraces of public housing complex Judge Langston C. McKinney Manor in Syracuse, New York. The top view captures the terrace’s cul-de-sac and surrounding structures. On top of the public housing outline are other structures filled with repeatedly horizontal lines or a grid patterns. There are four scattered orange structures in the illustration where a grid pattern-filled structure and a vertical-filled structure overlap. At the center and to the right are interior layouts of a housing complex. When installed, the collage studies comprise a 3x3 grid of nine different illustrations, with this illustration placed in the top right corner. It is similar to NMAAHC 2023.63.9.
