Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

A color archival pigment print titled “The Warder” by Ayana V. Jackson. The self-portrait of Jackson is from the series “Leapfrog (a bit of the other) Grand Matron Army.” Jackson is captured in a leapfrog stance, with her hands on the floor. Her fingernails are painted black, she is wearing multi-colored thin bracelets on her proper right wrist and a thick, wood color bracelet on her proper left wrist. Her pants are black with white and grey swirls and thigh black boots. The long sleeve top is a light tan color fitting loosely and with the sleeves slightly pushed up. Jackson’s hair is a side part; the proper right hair is blonde and falls below the cheekbone, the proper left side gives the illusion of a half undercut with braids. She is wearing a dark color lipstick and eye shadow. On her proper left ear, Jackson has a single, peacock feather earring.
