Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

This is the Magic ring designed and created by jeweler Art Smith. The ring is composed of two bands of sterling silver, one round and one flat, layered together to form the ring. The two bands are soldered together at the base, where the round band crosses over the flat band. They connect again at the top, where the ends of the round band have been soldered atop the ends of the flat band. The flag section has file marks on the edges and the interior of the flat piece is partially patinated black. The vertical edges between the two bands at the top are also patinated black. The ring has one hallmark stamped on the inside of the base, Smith’s signature [Art Smith].
