Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

A linocut of a central figure standing amid an abstracted cityscape. The male figure stands atop a small pyramidal structure with knees slightly bent, holding a small, non-abstract city scape in front of him with one building in white and one in black. His body faces the viewer and his head is turned towards the right side of the print. Black and white city buildings surround him at different angles. The title of the print [“Looking Upward”] is written in pencil just underneath the image at left and the print is signed [James L. Wells] at right.
