Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

A pair of kinetic ball earrings designed by Art Smith. Each earring has a short silver wire that interlocks with a longer, curved tubular silver wire from which is suspended a hollow, 1 ¼” wide sterling silver ball. The ball has an opening where the curved wire is inserted and soldered to the interior wall. The method of connection allows the wire and ball to swing freely. Soldered to the back of each short wire piece is a post-backed ear stud with a silver butterfly backing closure. The left closure has a roughly diamond shaped front and is stamped [925 /DF] on the back. The right closure has a scalloped edge front and is stamped [SY-] on the back.
