Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

A large, abstract expressionist, oil on canvas painting by Arthur Monroe. The painting is square, with bold, multilayered brushstrokes in shades of green, grey, black, white, and accents of rust. Just to the lower right of center, a red oval appearing over a thick linear stroke of the same red stands out amidst the field of greens, greys and black. Its counterpoint just to the lower left of center is a flourish in dark slate blue. The painting is unsigned by the artist.
