This is the 12th issue of BLK magazine published November 1989. On the front cover, there is an image of Jewel Williams. Williams wears a sweater over a patterned blouse. At top left, [BLK] is printed in large, bold, white uppercase letters within a red rectangular textbox. There are 34 numbered pages, with articles, advertisements, classifieds, black and white photographs, and cartoon illustrations throughout. Under the heading [WORD UP] there are two short news editorials: [Exit Lines] is about misogynist lyrics in a record by the hip-hip group 2 Live Crew, and [Getting Schooled] is about racist and homophobic language used by Geraldo Rivera and Schoolly D, respectively. This is followed by the calendar section [BLK BOARD] and the BLK masthead.
