A coiled sweetgrass cake basket made by Mary A. Jackson. The round, shallow basket (2017.82.6a) has a flat bottom and a removable lid (2017.82.6b) with rim that fits over top. Both the top of the lid and the bottom of the basket feature the same pattern: a center circle of darker colored pine needles surrounded by a wide band of lighter colored sweetgrass, then a narrow band of pine needles with French knots at regular intervals, another wide band of sweetgrass, another ring of pine needles with French knots, then a final ring of sweetgrass that extends to the sides of the basket and the rim of the lid.
