Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

A wood plane. The plane has a wooden body and it is missing its blade and wedge. The cheek and eye have been carved out of the center of the body. The sides of the plane are squared, as is the heel and the toe. The handle is inserted into the hole near the heel and stands ninety degrees to the body of the plane and is held in pace with a single flat head screw. There is a repair on one side with two (2) bent nails. Riveted to the other side is a small metal plate with a stylized [H] embossed slightly off center. The bottom of the plane has a mouth, a narrow rectangular cutout for the missing blade.
