Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

A pair of sterling silver earrings in a wishbone shape, with rounded triangle “dinner gongs” hanging from each side of the wishbone. The “wishbone” tops of the earrings are made of a single piece of thick sterling silver wire that is bent and flattened together into a tear-drop shape at the top before splitting into two rounded extensions that flatten and curve backwards, so that when worn, the earrings resemble a wishbone or upside down “Y”. There is a small hole punctured at the lowest part of each fork’s curve. Threaded through each hole is a piece of sterling silver wire shaped into triangles. Soldered to the back of each center-top wishbone piece is a hooked earring back made of a thinner piece of sterling silver wire.
