Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

A color lithograph depicting a map of Colombia in relation to the Transatlantic slave trade between Europe, Africa, and the Americas. The continents appear as blocks of pink amidst the light blue oceans. Europe is a darker fuchsia than the other continents. Africa and Americas have swathes of red and orange in areas of the coast where enslaved persons were transported to and from. Colombia appears in bright yellow, the only country on the map clearly outlined and labeled. Also labeled is [CARTAGENA / SAN BASILIO DE PALENQUE]. In the ocean between South America and Africa is a black and white cross-section diagram of the interior of a slave ship, with human figures packed tightly into the different levels of the ship. Under the diagram is dark purple Spanish text that reads [COMERCIO TRIANGULAR].
