Source catalog description
This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.
A color photograph of two women at the annual parochial procession of San Basilio de Palenque, Colombia. On the left is a woman in a bright yellow headwrap, facing away from the camera. On the right is the second woman, her left profile captured from the shoulders up, her head bowed. She is wearing a blue floral print top, a gold-colored necklace and a pearl and gold-colored earring. In front of her is a bouquet of purple flowers and a candle. The procession is visible at the center of the photograph, between the two women: a platform carrying a statue of a saint is lined at the bottom with white cloth and pink and white flowers. On the verso, in the top left corner is an inscription handwritten in pencil [Pabla Salgado / 1989].
