Source catalog description
This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.
Black wool jacket (.1) and skirt (.2) with off-white topstitching detail by Patrick Kelly. The jacket is fitted on the sides, flaring slightly below the natural waist, with the proper right front bottom side extending below the proper left front bottom side to create an asymmetrical hemline. The lapel is also asymmetrical, with the proper right side having a deep notch while the proper left side has a curved edge with no notch. The jacket closes at the center front with three (3) rounded silver metal buttons and one (1) small metal snap. The full-length sleeves are cut straight with slit cuffs that are stitched shut and have (3) of the rounded silver metal buttons sewn over the slit on each sleeve for decoration. Top-stitching in cream outlines the lapels and collar, the shaping seams on the front and back body, and around the outer edge of the body.
