Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

Black jacket (.1) and pants (.2) with tinsel decoration by Patrick Kelly. The jacket (.1) is collarless with wide front lapels and full-length dropped tapered sleeves. It is gathered at the natural waist using a self-fabric drawstring that ties at the center front, creating a skirted bottom section from the waist to the hip. The black nylon and acetate blend fabric is decorated all over with black tinsel ribbon sewn in a vermicelli pattern, including the drawstring. The jacket is fully lined in black acetate. A white fabric label with black embroidered text is sewn at the interior center back neck that reads "MADE IN FRANCE / PATRICK KELLY / PARIS". A white fabric label with blue printed text is sewn at the proper left interior neck with size, style, fiber content, and care information. The pants (.2) are pleated at the front waist with straight ankle-length legs.
