A two piece Mexican Border Service medal, awarded for service at the United States - Mexico border in 1916. The top vertical metal piece is designed in the shape of a bald eagle with its wings outstreched perched atop an unfurled banner with the year "1916" flanked by two raised bullets. The eagle is placed in front of a field of stars and is flanked on each side by three arrows. The vertical eagle is attached to the larger medal by two metal rings. The medal contains a circular laurel wreath with a five pronged medallion super-imposed on top. Clockwise from right to left the prongs contain the following imagery: crossed cannons, crossed sabers, bullhorn, anchor, and crossed rifles. At the center of the medallion is a small circular gold piece engraved with an image of a standing soldier in full uniform holding a rifle with camp tents in the background.
