A screen print from the series “The Legend of John Brown” by Jacob Lawrence. The print depicts a line of seven armed men standing side-by-side, aiming and looking over a brown wall. The figures’ backs are all to the viewer, with some side profiles visible. Belts of ammunition are on the floor on the left side, while a rock and a body laying on the floor are on the right side. The black night sky is filled with shades of blue. On the front of the print, the artist wrote the series number and edition in the lower left corner [#20 51/60] and signed and dated in the lower right corner [Jacob Lawrence 1977].
