Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

A clear plastic pouch (a) with multicolored button pins (b-k) by Patrick Kelly. The clear plastic pouch is fused along the sides and there’s a central plastic black snap button at flap closure. The Patrick Kelly logo design (a golliwog) is layered across the front and back layers – with the face portion on the back and the lips and earrings are on the front. The full design is only visible when the bag is empty. [PATRICK KELLY / PARIS] is printed on the back in black letters. The ten multicolored buttons are plastic (b-k: yellow, green, orange, dark blue, white, red, purple, pink, light blue, and black). The buttons are made of plastic with raised edges, four central holes, and a single piece of .25” wide black synthetic velvet ribbon is looped through the four holes in an “X” formation and glued to itself on the back.
