Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

A yellow asymmetrical wrap around coat dress. The yellow wool gabardine coat features an outer short capelet made from two panels of fabric and two full length raglan sleeves that taper towards the wrists. Each sleeve is made from three panels of fabric. The proper right panel wraps around the body creating a second layer, which is a sheath dress on the proper left and a continual panel on the right that wraps around the body a third time, ending in an angled point at the proper left. A .75” panel of light-yellow cotton is sewn at the sheath dress armscye. There is a deep v-neckline at the sheath dress and a stove pipe neckline at the capelet. The capelet closes with a metal hook and eye closure and a 1” self-fabric covered round button. Yellow wool gabardine makes up the front of the dress and the back lower half of the body.
