Source catalog description
This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.
An ivory colored button down dress with a wide collar. The long sleeved, knee-length dress is made from ivory synthetic crepe-backed satin with the crepe side facing outwards. The collar is made from two panels of fabric and is stiffened with a layer of interfacing between the panels for added structure. It’s meant to stay open, creating a V-neckline. Three panels of fabric make up the bodice – one panel for the proper left, one for the proper right, and one for the back. Each sleeve is made from one panel of fabric and is sewn to itself at the inner arm. There is a 2” dart at the elbow. Both the skirt and bodice are gathered and sewn together along the waistline. Three belt loops are sewn around the waistline – one on each side and a third on the proper left side that extends through the waistline seam. Thirty-nine self-fabric .
