Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

A gold metallic brocade ensemble with geometric and floral patterning. The full-length dress (a) is made of synthetic gold metallic brocade. It has a round neckline with a large black synthetic velvet bow sewn below the neckline. A cluster of orange glass rhinestones in a black plastic setting is sewn to the center of the bow. The long poet sleeves have dropped shoulder seams and are cinched below the elbow. A black and gold synthetic brocade Greek key ribbon is sewn along the cinched area. An elastic band is sewn behind the brocade ribbon. The sleeves are finished with a band of black synthetic fabric at the interior bottom edge and machine sewn with monofilament thread. A metal snap is sewn behind each side of the velvet bow. An inverted pleat is set at the center front and center back, both of which are tacked along waist level.
