Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

A green velveteen headband with appliqued yo-yo flowers. The exterior of the headband is made of six velveteen yo-yo flowers resembling lily pads. Buckram is placed inside of the flowers for support. The flowers are stitched to the headband, which is covered in the same green velveteen fabric. Metal or plastic is placed inside of the headband to keep its shape. Small pieces of green nylon net are seen along the interior of the headband suggesting a veil was previously attached. This project received Federal support from the Smithsonian American Women’s History Initiative Pool, administered by the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum.
