Source catalog description
This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.
A black hat with four panels seamed together across the top in an X formation. Each panel is composed of black corded material densely arranged in a triangular pattern. There is one spot on the top of the hat where the outer material has been worn away due to abrasion, exposing a light brown material. The inside of the hat is black, unlined, and has no label. There are black stitches on the inside that correspond to the placement of the outer cord. A black woven ribbon goes around the inner band. This project received Federal support from the Smithsonian American Women’s History Initiative Pool, administered by the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum.
