Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

A brown apron with a taxidermy mink head decoration. The apron is made from two panels of fabric. The apron is gathered and sewn to a brown rayon grosgrain ribbon waistband and the ribbon ties are left raw and unfinished at each end. Both the ribbon waistband are machine sewn together and secured with brown bias tape. The apron’s top layer is made from brown synthetic taffeta, cut in a semi-circular shape. At the proper right is a semi-circular patch pocket with a central decoration consisting of a brown taxidermy mink head with two tails sewn at the top, resembling ears. On top of the mink head are dark red strung glass seed beads with a central glass rhinestone that has a metal eye pin through it. Behind the rhinestone are two plastic pearls, also threaded with metal eye pins. All three are sewn into place with a thread through their metal eye pins.
