Source catalog description
This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.
A red beret structure with two layered flounces. The flounces are each made from one panel of red wool that start at the center front, run along the proper left edge and end at the center back, covering the majority of the hat. All edges are bound in a .25” wide red synthetic binding. One circular panel of red wool crepe creates the top of the beret, and a second circular panel creates the underside, which is sewn to itself at the center back seam. There’s a 1.25” wide panel of wool crepe for the crown’s edge that is also seamed to itself at the center back. The inside is lined with two panel of blue synthetic jersey knit lining – one for the interior crown and one panel of the interior crown sides.
