Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

A pink skull cap with glass beads. The base of the hat is constructed from a panel of pink heavyweight net that has been blocked into shape. A layer of pink herringbone woven straw is laid on top and pink bugle beads have been sewn all over the straw surface. There is an overall skull cap shape with a circular cut out around the proper right ear. The hat’s edge, which encases metal wire, slightly raises away from the head in the front. A pink .75” Petersham ribbon lines the inner perimeter of the hat and at the center back is a brand label that reads [SAKS FIFTH AVE. / MILLINERY SALON].
