Source catalog description

This description refers to material held by Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visual details below describe the original material.

A purple fascinator with velvet bows. The base of the fascinator is made from two purple synthetic velvet bias cut stripes that are sewn around an unidentified stiffener with metal wires. The strips are made from a single panel that’s sewn to the fascinator at the front and back midpoints and they are secured into place with pink, metal staples. The base of the fascinator consists of an ovoid purple stiffened millinery net, and the edges are trimmed with a purple synthetic velveteen ribbon with a wire encased inside of it. There are four 3” wide synthetic velveteen ribbons glued into place at the fascinator’s top – one at the center front, one on the proper left, and two at the proper right. Across the top of the fascinator are remnants of pink fabric, possibly from another decoration that’s since been removed.
